SID/SRB – Application, Requirements, Fees
Are you confused about the latest SID (Seafarer’s Identity Document) and SRB (Seafarer’s Record Book) being issued by MARINA? If you are, please continue reading and we will try our best to break down all the details and understand everything.
Initially, I was also confused because it seems like every time I complete my contract there’s always another MARINA document that I need to renew or apply. Well, what can we do? Maybe it is really part of our chosen profession? Anyway instead of complaining I started researching about SID/SRB and it’s not that complicated at all.
What is SID?
Here’s the definition of SID according to MARINA Memorandum Circular No. MD-2019-01 and it already describes its main purpose.
SID or Seafarer’s Identity Document refers to an International Identity Document under ILO Convention 185 (revised 2003) used to obtain proof of the bearer’s eligibility for visa waiver; and to identify them as genuine seafarers who may be entitled to transit with their passport at ports and border crossings, and to shore leave without a visa.

Which countries ratified the ILO 185 Convention and where the Philippine SID will be recognized?
These are the countries where our SID will be recognized.
If you are planning on having a shore leave in a country like USA, then sorry you still need a valid visa.
What is SRB?
SRB or Seafarer’s Record Book, (formerly known as SIRB) refers to a document issued by the Administration to all Filipino seafarers and cadets/cadettes that serves as record of sea service of the holder onboard ships of 35GT and above for commercial vessel and 50GT and above for fishing vessel.

Basically the new SRB is just an updated SIRB.
