MARINA Daily Journal: Not A Problem Anymore

Rejoice and inform your friends because MARINA Daily Journal Of Bridge Watchkeeping Duties And Daily Journal Of Engine-Room Watchkeeping Duties are not required anymore. It is not required for purposes of licensure examination and issuance of Certificate of Competency (COC) as Officer-In-Charge of a Navigational Watch (OIC-NW) or Officer-In-Charge of an Engineering Watch (OIC-EW). As evidenced by STCW Circular No. 2016-01.

What is discussed in STCW No. 2016-01 about MARINA Daily Journal?

The circular emphasized that the MARINA Daily Journal is only not required for licensure exam and for issuance of COC. But it shall remain a responsibility of all recognized maritime higher educational institutions (MHEIs) to implement it. MHEIs should ensure that students of BSMT and BSMarE be given guidance to the full effective compliance on requirements of accomplishing and submitting the required daily journals under STCW Circular No. 2014-02.

The circular also added about ways in monitoring of compliance of MHEIs. The monitoring teams of MARINA and CHED shall ensure that the daily journals are accomplished by BSMT and BSMarE students. The daily journal will then be evaluated by their respective shipboard training officers.

In summary, you will still need to accomplish your MARINA daily journal. But only as a requirement of your school during shipboard training. And not for license examination or COC application.

Is it possible for AME associate in marine engineering graduate to take the exam for OIC EW license with more than 36 months experience onboard but without daily journal?
